Rebecca+Derek=Captivating | Bali Destination Wedding

Bali Destination Wedding Photographers

Derek and Rebecca have such a love of life and adventure, and of course, each other! The couple went to school in Vancouver, now live in Hong Kong, and have travelled the globe together. For their destination wedding, they chose beautiful, mesmerizing Bali. It was Chris & my first trip to Indonesia, and we fell in love with the place & its people. And what a setting for a wedding at the the Bvlgari Resort in Bali!

Some of our favourites from Rebecca & Derek's day.

Timeless details. And the most perfect destination wedding dress I've seen!

I adore Rebecca's Vera Wang gown - so truly elegant yet also light, airy, beachy, and washable. Yes, I said washable! After frolicking in the sand, Rebecca just rinsed out her dress in the bathtub & hung it to dry before rocking it in the rain the next day during the couple's rain-sodden YOU+ME session (check back soon for those images!).

Not one, but two pairs of wedding shoes -Loubutins for the ceremony & Manolos for the reception!

Rebecca gets ready.

So elegant.

Derek rocking his hot pink silk Hermes tie.

Derek's & his boys.

First Look....awww, I love this part!

Every girl should have a little bit of pink on her wedding day!

The dramatic ceremony site.

With lots of local culture.

A quiet moment between Rebecca & her father before walking down the aisle.

Nothing says congratulations like lots and lots of red & pink rose petals!

After the ceremony, a long trip down the side of the cliff to the resort's private beach.

Reception details - love the splash of red on the tables...

...that matched Rebecca's red dress. Dancing in the moonlight.

And a little after-dinner snuggling between husband and wife - each truly captivated by the other. Congratulations, R+D!

Cruise Ship Weddings

When we initially planned our destination wedding, we initially considered a cruise ship wedding. In theory, cruise ship weddings offer the best of both worlds – the ability to get away, while still having all the convenience of a wedding back home.

As we conducted our research, we were extremely disappointed with the options available from the cruise companies. Most cruise lines don’t want you to be able to get married “on board,” instead they offer packages before you leave (before the boat leaves home port) or during the voyage on their private island. We also found it difficult to get information from the cruise lines and nearly impossible to get someone to actually answer questions. But that was our experience.

If you are not dissuaded by our experience, the recent wedding of Andrew and Emily Pidgeon of Palm Bay, Florida should be required reading. You can read about their “wedding experience” on the Carnival Cruise Lines Sensation boat in The Sun Sentinal newspaper. If you’re considering a cruise ship wedding, read the article.

We’ve never actually seen a cruise ship wedding and can’t speak from personal experience. We wanted to write about cruise ship weddings in 2007 and contacted a number of cruise lines, but weren’t able to get a response. Perhaps in the future we’ll have the ability to see one and write about it firsthand.

In summary: Cruise companies are willing to accommodate your wedding…for a price. However, cruise companies are not set up to really cater to your specific wedding needs. Cruise companies can give you a wedding-from-a-box experience, but you need to ask yourself the question if that is really what you want.

If you don't love it, don't do it.

I think everyone knows that I'm all about doing that little (and sometimes alot) extra when you can.  It's the details (large and small) that make your wedding your wedding.  But here's the thing I've noticed as of late.  Having, doing, planning, buying extras that you don't looooooove, just because you think you like it okay.  Or you're seeing it everywhere else.  Or even worse, because someone convinced you to- so you're going to add it.  My advice is simply this.
"Say no".
Why? Something that you really do LOVE could come up later and then that "um, yeah, I think I'll do this is already in place and now LOVE doesn't get to happen. Blech.

Just because I like posts with pictures; I LOVE this:
Not hanging though, perfectly placed clusters (piles) sitting on the grounds of a great lawn.  LOVE it.

Jason+May=Tropical! | Bahamas Wedding Photographers

Bahamas Wedding Photographers

Sunshine, ocean, & sky and lots & lots of colour & love! Jason & May, Canadians currently living in Australia, were joined by their far-flung friends & family to celebrate their wedding on the tropical island of Bahamas.  The couple are no strangers to travel - their long-distance courtship meant adventures in cities around the world. And now they head out on the best journey of all - marriage!

Here are some of our favourites from their day!

The One & Only Bahamas has a gorgeous ceremony venue.

Love the simplicity of May's bouquet - with a little punch of tropical colour.

Jason sees his bride; this moment in the ceremony never fails to bring  lump to my throat.

Smiles &  laughter throughout the ceremony.

Yay! Married!

Probably one of my fav bridal portraits ever :)

After the ceremony, it was down to the palm trees & beach.

Love May's parasol. And this shot captured by our fabulous friend & photographer Tim.

We love to head out of the resort to include some local flavour when photographing destination weddings - and the town of Nassau didn't disappoint. First stop, coconuts+alcohol!

A little local color.

Jason & May's crew were up for a little trespassing to make this shot.

Even the warehouses are colorful in the Bahamas!

First dance - Jason & May rocked it!

Congratulations J+M!
