Hilarious

Those who follow me on Twitter (and facebook) will get this. Otherwise, um, just know that its funny- very funny. And know that its even more hilarious that it came to me today in a package labeled:
To WBS from @BlizzardGroom.
Yes, I have the most hilarious clients on the face of the earth. They totally make my day. Seriously, I think some of them should go on a comedy tour.

{In case anyone is confused- the shirt came from my blizzard couple}

A Thank You Note Station

Just a quick idea I had. Create for yourself a thank you station. Head to the office supply store and grab a filebox or craft supply store and grab a scrapbooking station. You're going to be using this for a while, so get a good one. I like the new ones that have hard sides and have handles. Also get a box of good pens and highlighters. Stop by the post office and load up on stamps. *Postage goes up in May, keep this in mind. Keep an updated guest list with addresses in the box, along with your stamps, pens, highlighters, post-its announcements and thank you notes. This is also a great place to keep all the congrats cards you receive. (tip: write what the gift was on the back of the card).

Bridal Shower idea (this post is for bridesmaids)

I keep coming across this place setting by Amy Butler. It's anything but typical, and so of course- love it. While I can't say that I would register for it as my "good china", but its too special for "everyday", and I still want it.
I had a V8 moment (you know, that smack on the head from the commercials? I think those are so funny). This is a great place setting for small dinner parties, luncheons, or breakfasts! A set of 6-8 would be perfect.
So here's how the bridal shower part fits right in. Each bridesmaid contributes one setting, as her gift. Only, you don't wrap the gifts. Use them as the settings on the table for the shower you're hosting! Have your bride sit down at the table and let her unwrap one of the empty place setting boxes, with a note inside that explains what she's received. How lucky is your friend? So lucky.
By the way, did you know Amy Butler has free pdf designs you can download? How cool is that? Thank you Amy.

Location Report: Destination Weddings in Dubai

We recently returned from the UAE and Dubai. Dubai is amazing and there are some fantastic beach resorts there. Of particular note, we enjoyed the Habtoor Grand resort and the One and Only.

However Dubai is located in the Islamic state of the United Arab Emirates (UAE). Civil weddings are not possible. You need to get married in a church. It is extremely helpful if you are both of the same religion as mixed-religion marriages introduce a significant level of complexity. A blood test is required. And perhaps most difficult is that Dubai and the UAE explicitly prohibit those in the country on a visitor’s visa from marrying (effectively eliminating the country as a potential destination wedding hotspot).

This is a shame since Dubai and the UAE are so idyllic. Warm winter weather, killer beaches, tremendous shopping and amazing restaurants could make Dubai the must-go-to location for trendy destination weddings. If Dubai Ruler Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum allowed his country to modernize, Dubai and the UAE could be a major center for destination weddings.

Featured in Brides Florida Magazine

One of the perks of being engaged are the pre-wedding celebrations. Oh how I love to plan these as well! Take advantage of your engagement and enjoy all the excitement that goes along with it.Wedding planners are great to hire for consultation to get the scoop on the best locations, ideas, and ways to make all of your events that much more special than you could have even imagined. No, you do not have to have your wedding shower at Aunt Sue's and your bachelorette party can be swanky without being, ummmm, well, you know.

Look for some of our favorite places in the newest issue of Brides Florida magazine (Page 122). The editors came to Weddings by Socialites for all the great places to host your "other wedding parties". Namely, showers, rehearsal dinners, and bachelorette parties.
Oh, and isn't the cover gorgeous?

Wedding Ceremony, Brunch, then party at Sunset

Have you ever noticed that the pages you're ripping from magazines are pictures of bright sun shiny weddings? Yet, so many brides and grooms plan evening events for their destination weddings. Hmmm. Well, I noticed. So, here are my thoughts.
Consider an early ceremony, between 9am and 10am. Then, have a brunch celebration followed by an evening dinner party. Brunches are typically the least expensive meal to serve, but are also usually one of guests favorites because there is such a grand offering. You can go much more understated on the decor, because the natural lighting and surroundings are the scene stealers. Perhaps something like some stunning potted Phalaenopsis Orchids.Since the dancing will be at the party that night, you can just have a cool saxophonist (or continue with the string trio you had from the ceremony) playing for ambiance. Getting married at the beach? How amazing would brunch next to the shore be? Yep, really amazing.
Think about the times you've eaten outside, next to the water. Wasn't it a great feeling? There's a reason why sidewalk cafes are so popular. Eating outdoors is a refreshing break from the norm.

Later for the dinner party, skip the cocktail hour and go right to dinner and dancing. What to do inbetween? Enjoy the day with all your family & friends!
